Robert Capa / Icones

€45.00

This retrospective book, edited by specialist Michel Lefebvre, immerses us in the image-making process of the great photographer, filmmaker and war reporter Robert Capa, presenting both iconic images and previously unpublished photographs from the Golda Darty private collection and the Magnum Photos archives. The book examines the uniqueness of Capa's approach: how were his images distributed and published, and what do they tell us about the photographer's life and the influence he had on modern photojournalism?

Organised chronologically and thematically, and introduced by short texts by Michel Lefebvre, the series presented in the book alternate between historical photographs and archive documents. Six major chapters retrace and contextualise Capa's work: from the Spanish Civil War to the Sino-Japanese conflict, from Russia to the summer season in Deauville, via the Second World War and the Normandy landings.

Icônes examines the artist's working methods and the clues found on the back of his photographs. This rich documentary material sheds light on the creation and distribution of Capa's images.
