Noémie Goudal / Démantèlements

€35.00

Noémie Goudal is inspired by theories developed in the field of geology, which aim to explain how mountains were formed. The question that plagued scientists was whether the things found in nature were the result of mathematical theorems. The Démantèlements series explores this question from a particular angle. Although we are accustomed to seeing the landscape as something totally fixed, it is in fact in perpetual motion. Even massive rocks, which seem to be frozen in eternity, have been transformed by various geological processes. Noémie Goudal photographed a mountain and printed it on water-soluble paper, which dissolves on contact with water. She then laminated this paper to a transparent tarpaulin and cut out the perimeter of the mountain to create a reproduction approximately 2 meters wide. She then placed this reproduction in front of another mountain, or more generally in front of a landscape. Thanks to the effect of perspective, the reduced mountain somehow blends into the landscape.
