Georges Rousse / Rising Circles

€39.00

A new book devoted to the representation of the circle in the work of Georges Rousse (visual photographer, FR, 1947) to mark the opening of the exhibition Rising Circles at Hangar.

“Georges Rousse has been building spectral representations of our world for decades now. His modus operandi is well known: the artist steps into a site, most of the time abandoned, negotiates in a sometimes radical way through its structure, paints, draws, and digs in order to install a visual operation that the shoot will convey to the viewer at a precise point. In the great tradition of trompe l›oeil, spaces without quality are thus raised to the rank of a showcase celebrating the art of perspective. This is where the last embers of a perceptual system that all avant-garde art had sought to blast could be said to be nestling. As creator from a bygone age, Georges Rousse makes Euclidean geometry hover over our heads, resorting to an elementary form, namely the circle, to make us still doubt the world while satisfying ourminds.” Michel Poivert (extract from the book)
